Being in a relationship is not always easy

Relationships are fragile. We need to tend to them, nurture them, and repair disconnection when it happens.

In my office, couples learn to communicate more effectively, to identify and understand their feelings, to state their needs, resolve conflicts, and rediscover their connection. At one point or another, all couples are faced with a hard moment, disconnection, or feeling as if “we aren’t what we used to be”. Even the “healthiest” of couples fight or struggle at one point in time, it is learning how to repair those disagreements and reconnect that distinguishes the survival of a relationship.

In supporting couples, I use research-based interventions pulling from my training in Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Gottman Method.

How I Help

Many times when a couple is struggling, defenses kick in and create a barrier to resolving conflict. I will help you move the conversation forward instead of you getting stuck in a discussion or argument that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Together we can explore patterns in your relationship and discover what works and how to improve upon that.

Couples come to therapy for a variety of reasons such as:

  • Communication breakdown
  • Infidelity Issues
  • Issues around sex and intimacy
  • Navigating parenting
  • Separation/Divorce – wanting an amicable and peaceful ending

What if the relationship is already over?

There are also times when a couple realizes that the relationship no longer works and the process of separating can be extremely difficult. If that is the case, and you need support navigating the process of a break up or a divorce, I can help with that transition with the goal that you can separate peacefully and amicably. Heartache is hard enough and sometimes that pain is masked with anger and tension that in the end, actually makes the break up much more difficult. When children are involved, this support can be of value to the entire family.
