counseling for teenagers

Some of the most significant years of our lives

Addressed to you…

Adults tend to forget what it is like to be a teenager. You have pressures adults don’t have, struggles adults don’t have, and most of the time you are trying to navigate through a world filled with hard decisions. You have hormones (sometimes raging), life transitions, complicated friendships, and the challenges and pressures of school.

I have a place where you can explore your thoughts and feelings and not worry about what someone else may think. If you need alternative solutions to the challenges you’re facing, we will brainstorm together.

Many young adults need someone to see the world through their eyes. They need someone to help them navigate through a complexity of feelings that have the potential to cause distress, confusion, or sadness.

About Teen Therapy

We all have untapped resources to help guide us in solving our own problems but sometimes we need a little help.

One thing that you need to know is that psychotherapy is a private space where most everything is confidential.

Teenagers sometimes believe that what is said in therapy is shared with parents – that is counter to what is actually true. When you start therapy, you (and your parents or guardian) will have a chance to ask questions as far as what is, and what is not confidential. Essentially, therapy is your private space and we work together regarding what we share or don’t share with other adults.

How I Help Teenagers

I help adolescents work through the following struggles:

  • Eating disorders and body image
  • Life transitions (school, divorce in the family, etc.)
  • Drug and alcohol experimentation
  • Struggles with learning disabilities and the social and emotional implications
  • Bullying
  • Navigating relationships (friendships and romantic)
  • Exploring sex and what that means
